Richborough Connections

The Richborough Connection scheme is part of a new 20km high-voltage overhead transmission line from Richborough to Canterbury set up by one of the largest electricity and gas transmitters in the UK, the National Grid.

The new overhead lines will connect up to new power sources, including a new subsea power supply from Belgium to the coast of England. Due to the scale of the project and location of the 60 pylon sites across 20km of countryside, the piling works took 11 months to complete.

Centrum Pile supplied 950No. 400mm square precast concrete piles, which were manufactured at its factory in Newark, Nottinghamshire. One element of the project that was a challenge was keeping track of where piles needed to be delivered, along with making sure they were delivered in time for the piling contractor. Pile lengths were supplied from 6m to 30m using our mechanical A-Joint.
