Centrum Extends Range of Precast Concrete Piles
A larger 400mm section added to the stable!
Centrum Pile Ltd, the UK\\\'s leading and largest manufacturer of continuously reinforced precast concrete piles, has further extended its standard range of 200mm, 250mm, 300mm and 350mm square section piles to include a larger 400mm section. This latest expansion at the modern Newark factory in Nottinghamshire is in response to expected industry growth and market demand for bigger section piles, coupled with pressure from the environmental lobby, which has been calling for more efficient use of vital raw materials in piling
One area of anticipated growth is providing foundations for land based wind turbines for the renewable energy market. Centrum, together with its piling contracting parent company Aarsleff Piling, have been able to draw on the wealth of knowledge and experience gained by the group\'s Danish parent company, Per Aarsleff, over many years of installing precast concrete piles for wind turbines in Germany and Denmark. THe 400mm square section piles have been used extensively in those countries and many UK clients recognise the benefits of using these larger section piles to cater for the complex cyclical loadings generated by wind turbines.
Precast concrete piles, made under quality controlled factory conditions, provide greater load bearing capacity per cubic metre of concrete than cast in-situ piles. In addition there is no spoil generated when installing precast concrete piles, unlike cast in-situ. These advantages, coupled with the national tax on raw materials and landfill tax on disposal of contaminated spoil, associated with cast in-situ piling operations, has led to the growth in the use of precast concrete piles.
