Centrum Precast pass some of the industry’s best-known certification schemes.

There is nothing more important to Centrum Precast than the safety of its staff. Great care and consideration is taken to protect both them and those they work with on site and in the pile manufacturing facility. Our experienced and highly qualified STEQ team undertake regular external audits of their processes and procedures every year, to ensure they are as comprehensive as possible and highlighting any areas for improvement.

Centrum Precast and the STEQ team (Safety, Training, Environment and Quality) have recently been through various external audits by some of the industry’s best-known certification and qualification schemes including BSI Kitemark and Exova BM Trada. Over the course of 3 days comprising rigorous assessment, desktop exercises and factory inspection, Centrum is proud to have passed all the audits with flying colours.

To pass the surveillance audit for the BSI Kitemark in Ready Mix Concrete, Aarsleff had to give evidence of production conformance within Centrum’s batching plant, evidence of concrete testing and amongst other criteria, assessment of the full supply chain. A second surveillance audit was carried out for the BSI Factory Production Control incorporating BS EN 12794 and BS EN 13369. This covers the production of the concrete piles and the traceability of raw materials. At Centrum, each concrete pile that goes through the factory has a unique bar code. This bar code can tell us where the steel came from and how much has been used. Finally, Centrum passed the third surveillance audit with BM Trada for 0HSAS 18001:2007 which covered all aspects of Health and Safety.

Having been recertified for the Exova BM Trada 9001:2008 and the BM Trada 14001:2004, Centrum’s STEQ team then went through the transition for both these to the 2015 standard. The transition required showing the auditor a review of the management systems and procedures in place, providing evidence for objectives set the year previously and how they had been achieved, and setting new objectives to demonstrate continual improvement of the business into the future.

Already looking ahead, the STEQ team are now working towards achieving the RISQS accreditation (Railway Industry Qualification Scheme). Centrum Precast’s STEQ manager Robert Speakman said: “Our systems are always under constant review by external bodies, enabling us to maintain high quality of products and promote best practise for all our staff and our clients.”
